Double District Sporting Success

U15 Girls Football

Sir John Lawes School played against STAGS who had breezed through to the final in their respective half of the competition. After a narrow victory in their semi final, SJL went into this game full of confidence knowing they had the capabilities to go that one step further.

SJL started fast scoring early and if there were any nerves, these disappeared immediately and saw SJL finish 5-0 winners. As much as they were devastating going forward, credit must also go to the defense and goalkeeper for restricting STAGS to efforts from range. A clean sheet in the final was just as impressive as the 5 goals we scored. Undoubtedly, congratulations to Tiana, deserved the Player of the Match award, her trickery and composed finishing helping the team to become DISTRICT CHAMPIONS!

Congratulations to the whole team, we are very proud.

Year 10 Netball

What a week for SJL sport as the trophies kept rolling in! The Year 10 netball girls were amazing against extremely tough and skilled opposition. Playing against STAGS in netball is always a tough ask and the girls anticipated a closely contested game.

SJL got off to a tremendous start in the first two quarters leading at the half time interval 14-8. The energy on court led to numerous interceptions which SJL were able to convert. However, STAGS came storming back in the third quarter levelling the game at 19-19…

But, in the final quarter the girls really dug deep and produced some high-quality netball scoring 5 unanswered points. This passage of play was enough to seal a deserved victory despite STAGS piling on the pressure towards the end of the quarter. The SJL girls remained composed and the smiles on their face say it all!

On a side note, 7 of the girls represented both the netball and football teams this week making them DOUBLE DISTRICT CHAMPIONS!
