Student Manager wins Civic Award
Posted on 17/05/2022We often celebrate the achievements of our students in these pages, but on this occasion, we are congratulating Cherie Button, Sir John Lawes School's KS3 Student Services’ Manager. Cherie is renowned for the care and compassion she shows for our students but she has now also been recognised for her work in her home community of Welwyn Garden City, having won a Civic Award for 2022. |
Cherie explains, "Since April 2021 my friend Joy and I have been sitting in our home town centre in Welwyn Garden City saying a simple hello to local residents, shoppers, commuters and people from all walks of life. By just reaching out and saying a simple hello it has opened up a truly humbling year full of smiles, tears, celebrations and much needed laughter. Lockdown was a frightening and worrying time, and we have all got through it together. We have had the pleasure of meeting some amazing people and shared in some intimate and at times heart-breaking stories. It has been nothing less than fantastic letting people know they are not invisible and that we are all great medicine for each other. We have supported The Howard Centre with One Great Day and on Sunday 22 May will be supporting our Community Police Team with their Anti-social behaviour event. We love where we live and building community is key to getting the very best out of each other." Cherie and her friend Joy will receive their awards at a formal reception on the 23 May and we look forward to hearing all about it. It is clear they are both demonstrating the C for Care in ACE! |
