London Central Mosque Trip
Posted on 04/11/2022On the 2nd of November, 94 SJL Religious Studies students from Year 10 who study the RS Full Course, went to visit the London Central Mosque in Regents Park. When we arrived at the gates of the Mosque (which is very close to Lords Cricket Ground), Mr Evans was telling us about famous Muslim cricketers who visit the mosque when they go to London for their matches. When we walked through the courtyard, I thought to myself that it looked amazing from the first glance. We then entered the religious conference room where we met our guide, Ayaz, who was amazing! He answered all the questions we had and taught us about the history of the Mosque, which made me feel really inspired. He made us all interested and eager to look around the mosque and it was an amazing first hour being there. In the second hour before lunch, we went to visit the prayer room. The girls had to cover their hair for respect, which I thought was lovely, because it meant we could show our respect towards the people praying. |
As we walked in, it was very silent. Nobody was speaking and the group sat watching and observing the prayers. The prayer room was beautiful, and listening to the prayers made me feel safe, and it was very peaceful. It was also a very special time as we witnessed Mr Akhlaq and two other students from SJL also joining in with the many Muslims who were there to pray.
All the SJL girls then had the opportunity to head upstairs to the balcony in the prayer hall to the female prayer room, and a lovely woman spoke to me about Islam. It was so lovely to interact with her as she was so excited to tell me about her faith. As a Christian, I was inspired to learn about Islam, and the difference between the two religions. The Mosque was a lovely place for anyone to visit, and I would go there again (and gather more notes which I knew would also help me with my GCSE course). Writing this makes me so happy because I’m so glad to share my views about the day. Overall, It was an amazing day. Thank you, Mr Evans, Mr Mason, Mrs McIntyre, Ms Santos Richmond, Mrs Brazier, Mrs Forrester and Mr Akhlaq for an amazing day out.
