Harpenden Academy, Key Stage 2 children went on tour this week to Woodhall Estate, where they learnt to be connected to the countryside in a practical way. The children learnt about different crops and what they are used to make as well as where they are exported to. The children planted dormant seeds to take home and germinate and learnt about sheep farming and even got to pet some sheep. They were introduced to some owls and studied their habitats, diets and characteristics. The children identified tree species using a leaf key in the grounds of the estate. They made bug hotels and planted magic beans!
We covered the importance of looking after our environment and how to ensure our wildlife is protected. On both days we were fortunate to have lovely, warm weather which made being outside for the day even better. Thank you to all the parents that came with us on the trips. All the children were so enthusiastic and engaged.
Thank you to Woodhall Estate.
