Posted on 16/10/2023The Modern Foreign Languages Department, Hemel Hempstead School, hosted on Wednesday 11st October a Poetry Reading Competition in the Main Hall in an excellent performance of the linguistic ability of Hemel Hempstead School students.
35 individuals from Years 7 to 13 made it through inter-class and best-in-year rounds to progress to the final, where they read from a variety of short poems that allowed them to further practise and display their linguistic skills. An amazing judging panel of language experts Miss Benjamin and Miss Martin who were present to make the tough decision of choosing the final winners.
A selection of French, Spanish and German poems from a range of writers including Victor Hugo, Johann Wolfgang Goethe and Federico García Lorca were read by the students with great confidence and plenty of skill. The event was an excellent way for students to develop their ability in their chosen language and also provided a wonderful opportunity for them to develop their public speaking skills and confidence.
Congratulations to the winners and to all who were involved in what was a very successful event.
