MUGA Officially Opened at Priory

Posted on 14/11/2023

Pupils at a Priory Academy will now benefit from state-of-the-art facilities following the completion of a brand new multi use games area. Priory Academy is an extended secondary school, in the heart of Dunstable, with 700+ pupils aged between the ages of 9-16.

2023 Oct PRY MUGA

Having worked closely with The Central Bedfordshire Council Archaeology Team the project ensured to mitigate any archaeological impact on the sensitive site. The school are now excited to announce the completion of the games area, ready for use by the school and its community. The multi use games area will enable the school to further enhance their broad and balanced curriculum with an extensive programme of extra-curricular physical recreation and sport to provide pathways for all students to develop their interest and enjoyment of physical activity.

The school received funding from Scholars’ Education Trust to support the build. Scholars’ Education Trust are a cross phase trust providing high-quality education for more than 6 thousand children between the ages of 4 and 18. The Trust aims to ensure that the students in our care receive the best education possible.

Headteacher, Ian Bailey welcomed Madam Mayor to the school and added

“The new MUGA will have a transformational impact on the sporting opportunities that students at Priory Academy can experience. The facility will allow them to develop their skills throughout the year, both during the school day, in PE lessons and after school in a variety of sports clubs. This will enable children to access a healthy life style and hone skills required for elite sporting performance. We are extremely pleased to have this new sports facility and it will enhance the lives of a great many children, both at the school and in the local community.”

Cllr Liz Jones, Town Mayor 2022-2024 who officially opened the facility

“This is an excellent new facility for young people and will enable further health and well-being benefits for years to come.”

Pupils are thrilled by the new addition, Cayden Watson Year 10

“I can’t wait to play football on the new pitch – the surface and the goals look excellent.”

Chief Executive Officer for Scholars’ Education Trust Claire Robins commended the new facilities

“We are dedicated to constantly improving and investing in our schools in order to provide the very best educational experience for all our young people. This is a wonderful facility, which Priory Academy pupils really deserve.”
