GCHQ National Language Competition

Posted on 28/11/2023

Sir John Lawes Year 9 students took part in GCHQ’s National Language Competition 2023, which aims to inspire language learning in friendly competition with schools from around the UK. GCHQ is the UK’s intelligence, security and cyber agency and the competition featured challenges in a variety of different languages, including some made-up languages and some that the pupils had never studied before.

The three teams dedicated their free time in breaks and lunches to complete as many challenges as possible in the allotted time. Congratulations to Lauren, who managed to score a massive 3300 points, and congratulations to Team Blushing Elegant Catfish (Lauren, Agnes, Charlotte and Isla), who won our internal competition and achieved a position which placed them in the top 2% of all teams nationally.
