RBA hold inaugural Aspirations Day
Posted on 18/06/2021On Thursday 10th June, Robert Barclay Academy held a new event took place that has not happened at the school before, the Year 10s got to take part in an Aspirations Day. Which involved a day off of normal timetable and lessons, to participate in a mix of lessons and workshops. The pupils got to attend the day in business wear, which we felt allowed them to experience what it would be like if they were to attend an interview or 6th form/college etc.
The day began with a welcome breakfast and an introduction by Mr Rome and Ms Melhuish to the day, which then led onto a careers lesson led by staff from RBA. This lesson allowed pupils to explore HOP (‘Hertfordshire Opportunities Portal’), which is a one-stop shop for young people to access advice and guidance on career path options, employment opportunities, apprenticeships, and work experience opportunities in Hertfordshire.
After break the pupils entered the hall to begin a workshop on Exam Busting techniques, which was led by Jay from Positively Mad, who are a company that aim to positively make a difference by delivering high impact, high energy, interactive workshops to students, teachers and parents across the UK and beyond. Established in 2000, they have built an excellent reputation as the UK’s largest provider of educational workshops. And their ethos is that with the right tools and techniques, learning really can be fun. They strive to ensure that their workshops upskill and raise standards whilst arming students with the drive, attitude and confidence to succeed.
The Exam Buster workshop provided students with skills for life: study, preparation, memory, relaxation, stress reduction, organisation, mental & physical health and well-being – as well as a range of effective tools and techniques to help them BUST through their revision and exams. Then after lunch the took part in a Motivation workshop that empowered students with self-motivation and healthy, target-centred thinking patterns. Students became conscious of and manage their own state of mind and make the fundamental attitude and motivational shift needed for lasting changes which lead to achievement and success.
