Influential People
Posted on 28/01/2022This week's Harpenden Academy highlight has been hearing Dolly Parton songs being sung in assembly, but more importantly, around the school as the children walk down corridors, go to the toilet or dining room. Dolly Parton is one of our influential people the children have been learning about in school this week. The teachers have been talking to the children about a person who they admire and what they admire about them. Thank you to those parents who filled in the "Who is your cup of tea?" We were delighted with the response rate and the selection we received. The children have really enjoyed listening to these in class.
We have not only looked at people who have influenced our learning but also discussed who is influential to us. We started on Monday with an assembly in our classrooms about Martin Luther King for his birthday. We all learned about the determination he had to end prejudice against black people in America. We then used the week to learn about a range of people in each class, from Sir David Attenborough to Simone Biles. On Thursday, we all came to school wearing hats and headgear that reflected the people that have influenced our lives. As a school, we were so impressed by the range of people chosen by the children but also the presentations the children gave to their classes about their influential individual. We all learned so much from each other and we all enjoyed guessing who each hat represented. Thank you to all parents and carers for the effort you have made with your children to make this day a WOW in our school calendar.
