Lawes for Learning introduced
Posted on 05/10/2018Sir John Lawes introduced Lawes for Learning to complement the ACE ethos at the start of the 2018-2019 academic year.
Lawes for Learning is an updated version of our 21st Century Learning programme, which existed for nearly a decade. But it is also much more than that. Lawes for Learning is designed to support wellbeing, mental health, character education and resilience, as well as helping students to develop excellent learning habits. Therefore, it sits within the Scholars' ACE ethos, where students are supported to achieve highly, care for each other, and have excellent standards of behaviour.
Lawes for Learning is based around fifteen qualities, which are being embedded in every aspect of school life. Already, Lawes for Learning has become a part of the fabric of the school: promoted through displays and assemblies, developed in lessons and through assessment of work, and celebrated through rewards and mentoring sessions. At the moment, students are studying an introductory course in tutor groups and Year 7 have experienced a Lawes for Learning day, where they explored the qualities in detail and applied them in a series of creative and collaborative tasks. Soon, students will be learning about specific qualities during their afternoon tutor sessions, through a creative course designed to teach students how to develop and engage with the key qualities.
The aim is that Lawes for Learning will be embraced by everyone in the Sir John Lawes community.
