Student Climate Change and Sustainability Conference

Posted on 19/06/2023

The 2nd annual Trust Student Climate Change and Sustainability Conference took place at Rothamsted Conference Centre, Harpenden, on Friday. Approximately 170 students from across the trust schools attended and were joined by a small group of students from Milton Keynes Academy. We were delighted to meet so many experts covering all aspects around climate change, sustainability and biodiversity.

There were a number of excellent and inspiring workshops throughout the day and the feedback from all involved has been wonderful. A huge thank you to: Dr Amy Munroe-Faure, Dr Diana Pritchard, Dr Sibel Kaya, Dr Jemma Taylor, Isobel Mitchell, Kimberley Hare, Bel Jacobs, Tanya Pascual, Aidan Lovett, Nicola Steel and George Farr. We were also delighted to have Oxfam’s John McLaverty supporting the event once again. This year John was joined by colleague Juliet Suliwa Kasito, speaking live from Malawi. Juliet delivered an inspiring workshop and Q&A session on the topic of Climate Justice! A huge thank you to them and to Rothamsted staff for their support in helping to make this all happen. Finally, I must congratulate SJL’s Climate Action Group students: Abi Riley, Ruth Clarke, Meg Sparks and Georgina Halkett, who delivered a thought provoking workshop to Primary children titled Climate Change and the Role of Young People.
